August used car stocking days reduce as pre-reg models put pressure on UK used market says INDICATA
The fastest-selling used cars sold four days quicker in August according to the latest statistics from INDICATA, part of Autorola.
Average used car stocking days for the fastest-selling used car fell from 47 days in July to 43 days in August with the petrol Ford EcoSport and Tucson topping the charts.
The traditional summer market slowdown and the forthcoming September plate change saw a 2019 low of 52,282 sold used cars on the Indicata platform,
The younger used cars in the market were competing with an increased number of pre-registered new cars for sale during August, but generally used demand remained strong.
Smaller petrol used SUVs and larger diesel SUVs are selling strongly. The Seat, Mercedes and Volkswagen brands all performed well in August, with the petrol Seat Ibiza the second fastest-selling used car at 45 days.
“The 18-month to four-year old used cars in the market are selling strongly, but the pre-registered new cars will be forced to compete with the sub 18-month old used cars over the next few months,” explained Neil Gilligan, Indicata UK’s business development manager.
“This may impact on stocking days during September and October if consumers choose to buy a pre-reg car rather than a used car,” he added.
