Hyundai Tucson is fastest-selling used car in March - Nissan LEAF EV is in high demand says Indicata report

The Hyundai Tucson was the UK’s fastest-selling used car in March according to the latest report by Indicata, part of Autorola UK.

On average the Tucson sat on a dealer’s forecourt for an average of just 39 days before it was sold, five days faster than February’s fastest-selling car the Ford EcoSport.

The Dacia Sandero and the Ford Focus were the second and third fastest-selling used cars at 40 and 41 days respectively, but the biggest surprise was the Nissan LEAF appearing at number four in the table selling on average in 43 days.

Indicata believes this is further proof that electric cars are becoming more accepted in the UK, particularly as the average used price was £21,264, the fourth highest value car on the list. The Renault Zoe was the first EV to appear in the top 10 in December.

Analysing more than 84,000 used cars sold by UK car dealers in March 2019 between six and 36 months’ old, the Indicata report is fast becoming a valuable guide for dealers to gauge ‘what’s hot’ and ‘what’s not’ in the used car sector.

Similar to previous months SUVs and smaller hatchbacks were the most popular used cars. The Dacia Sandero was the cheapest car on the list at £7,932, while the Volvo XC60 at £30,912 was the most expensive.

“The Hyundai Tucson has been in our top 10 for the past few months so we know it’s a popular used car.

“It’s also great to see the Nissan LEAF hit our top 10 as future electric car sales growth relies on a solid used market to allow finance companies to underwrite healthy residual values against a business or personal lease,” explained Neil Gilligan, national business development manager, Indicata UK.

“March was a very busy used car month with stocking days reducing compared to February, despite increased new car sales activity around the new 19-plate change,” he added.
