Dacia Sandero and Duster are January’s fastest-selling used cars
The Dacia Sandero and Duster, along with Ford’s EcoSport, were January 2019’s fastest-selling used cars from a sample of nearly 90,000 dealer used sales recorded by Indicata UK. All three took an average of 48 days to sell in January.
The Sandero, Duster and EcoSport were closely followed by the Ford Kuga, taking an average of 49 days to sell and the VW Polo and the Seat Ibiza both respectively, at 51 days.
This is the highest average since Indicata started publishing its data in October 2018 which suggests used car volumes have risen during the month and that consumer demand has softened slightly. The fastest-selling used car in December, the Ford Ka took just 32 days to sell.
Once again Ford had a strong presence in January’s top 10 with five models – EcoSport (joint first); Kuga (second); Ka+ (fifth); Fiesta (sixth) and Focus (10th) – making the list. Three Mercedes Benz models made the top 10 – A-Class (fourth); GLA-Class (eighth); and GLC-Class (ninth).
“The number of average days to sell has risen considerably from December 2018 to January 2019, reinforcing that used market dynamics have changed quite dramatically at the start of 2019,” explained Neil Gilligan, national business development manager, Indicata UK.
“Dacia has been in our last four fastest-selling league tables, but it is the first time it has been at the top, but with not one but two models.
“Perhaps Dacia’s double in January signals a shift in the used car market with a greater focus on cost conscious purchases as the economy continues to be unsettled by Brexit,” he added.
The Dacia Sandero was also the lowest cost used car in the top 10 with an average sales price of £7,751. Meanwhile, the Volvo XC90, with an average sales price of £45,293 was the highest priced vehicle, followed by the Mercedes Benz GLC-Class (£34,610) and the Volvo XC60 (£30,839).
